RSPB Big Garden Birdwatch 2026

It’s nearly time for one of our favourite Citizen Science events – the RSPB’s Big Garden Birdwatch

It is the world’s largest garden wildlife survey, where every year hundreds of thousands of nature lovers take part, helping to build a picture of how our garden birds are faring. This year it is running from 23-25 January 2026.

Click here to sign up and you can receive an exclusive RSPB shop discount and a free digital or printed Birdwatch guide. You do not need to be an expect as there are plenty of resources to help you. It only takes an hour, so a great activity for all the family or on your own – you don’t even need to go outside!

Alternatively you can print off our handy guides of birds you are likely to see in your Marlow spaces, to submit the data after the weekend. So top up your feeders and let us know what you see land in your patch!

More Swift Boxes Going Up

We were delighted to install two more swift boxes this morning, to support Marlow’s swift population 💚

With special thanks to Holy Trinity School for their support in fundraising and hosting these boxes, and of course to Bisham Nest Box Group for making and installing the boxes.

We look forward to telling the students all about these important new breeding boxes, when they return from their summer holidays.

We are hoping to install swift boxes on all Marlow Schools this autumn/winter, ready for when they return home to breed next Spring.

Wild Marlow on Marlow FM’s Earth Show

On Sunday 27th April, our founder Verity West was a guest on Dave Hampton’s Earth Show on Marlow FM.

They discussed our wonderful local wildlife, the issues it faces and how we can all help it thrive, supporting nature’s recovery, by taking small actions 💚 They also played some great ‘wildlife themed’ tunes!

You can listen on catch-up via their website – https://www.marlowfm.co.uk/listen-again/

Gardening for Wildlife – FREE EVENT

Wildlife lovers and local gardeners will appreciate a free event organised by Wild Marlow on Friday, May 9th in All Saints’ Church Hall, The Causeway in Marlow 💚

Running from 7.00 to 9.00 pm, the event will start with a viewing of ‘Heal the Land,’ a stunningly beautiful 25-minute documentary from Heal Rewilding, a charity dedicated to rewilding in England. It features some of the highs and lows from the first two years of rewilding a former dairy farm and showcases much of the wonderful wildlife they’ve seen thrive.

After the film, Vicki Bruss from Wild Marlow, who works at a local rural estate using wildlife friendly gardening practices, will give a presentation on how to encourage wildlife into your garden, including resources people can use, and useful do’s and don’ts of gardening to increase biodiversity and aid in nature’s recovery.

Attendees will then have a chance to ask questions of an expert panel comprising Jan Stannard, co-founder, Trustee and acting CEO of Heal Rewilding; Vicki Bruss; Natasha Somers of Pocket Wilding, an expert in urban wilding and wildlife gardening; and Wild Marlow trustee Sarah Foot, experienced local ecologist.

We welcome and encourage everyone to join us in giving a small space for wildlife in their gardens, contributing to the much-needed nature recovery corridor across Marlow 💚

And Another Swift Box

Really pleased to add another swift box to the collection in Marlow, supporting these amazing birds 💚 They are currently on their way back home from Africa to breed, so hopefully a new pair looking for a breeding spot will find this ‘des res’ in West Street.
Thanks so much to Bisham Nest Box Group for the bespoke box and install, and for Heighway Associates Architects for their support 💚
Check out our Marlow Swifts project page and find out if you are able to help our local population.

Ready for a close up

This fella loves the spotlight and is wondering how he can get a cameo in the next @Marlow Murder Club series 🦦

Marlow Fire Station Wildflower Restoration Project

Last year one of our supporters saved a load of daffodil bulbs from Cliveden heading for the compost pile. We planted them to enhance the wildflower restoration project at Marlow Fire Station, to bring some essential early spring pollen sources💚
Whilst not strictly a native variety the bees and other pollinators didn’t seem to mind in the sunshine this week, so neither will we 🐝
Great to see the cowslips popping up too 👍 It really is looking pretty diverse now and we can’t wait to see all the blooms this flowering season 🌼

Another Swift Box Installation

Another day another swift box installed in the Marlow area 💚
This time with the support from the fabulous team at @Harrow and Hope. What a beautiful spot!
Thanks as always to the guys at Bisham Nest Box Group for making the box and installing. This one also has a caller to ensure the swifts know of the new potential nesting site, when they come home in May from their long journey from Africa.
