A Black-Headed Gull visits Marlow from Poland by Carl Hunter-Roach

  • Fitting birds with coded colour rings enable individuals to be identified without the need to re-capture them.

A Black-headed Gull, colour-ringed as an adult in central Poland in June 2016, has been observed at the Higginson Park swan-feeding area for the last few weeks. A journey of 1,332km to escape the harsh Polish winter. This individual is at least 9 years old.

If you observe a colour-ringed bird do try to take a photo and submit the details via the BTO or contact Midlde Thames Bird Conservation Trust for help.
